We had two topics spoken about today. The first was Setting Goals and the second was Recommitting ourselves to the Lord.
Let’s start with the first and a few things that I got from it. The Children and Youth programs are focused on ways to help get the gospel of Jesus Christ deep in the hearts of our children and youth.
Growing is an important part of Heavenly Father’s plan…Here’s a pattern to help you live the gospel in all areas of your life.
Discover what you need to work on.
Plan how you will do it.
Act on your plan in faith.
Reflect on what you have learned.
With setting goals, we need to have a willingness, patience in the Lord’s timing, and ask ourselves, what lack I yet? In order to ‘become a new creature’.
Now with the second one, another point to added to help take another look on the topic. What things can keep us from-Recommitting ourselves to the Lord.
Take for instance a young man who was taken out for a driving lesson with his father. As the boy drove for a minute, he was asked to pull over because his father was feeling nauseous. His father asked him what he was looking at and the boy replied, at the road. The father said he noticed that the boys were focused on what was right in front of the car and said that he would never be able to drive straight that way. Then the father emphasized that he needed to look down the road. That will help you drive straight.
Focusing on the things that are most important–especially those things, “down the road,” those eternal things–is a key to maneuvering through this life.
How to we find peace, remember who we are, and overcome the three D’s of the adversary.
Deception was used in the days of Moses. The Lord declared to Moses: “Behold, thou are my son…I have a work for thee, …and thou art in the similitude of mine Only Begotten.”
Shortly after this glorious vision, Satan attempted to deceive Moses. The words he used were interesting; “Moses, son of man, worship me.” The deception was not only in the invitation to worship Satan but also in the way he described Moses as a son of man. Remember the Lord had just told Moses he was a son of God…The adversary was relentless in his attempts to deceive Moses, but Moses resisted, saying, “Depart from me, Satan, for this on God only will I worship, which is the God of Glory. Moses remembered who he was–a son of God.
The Lord’s words to Moses apply to you and to me. We are created in God’s own image, and He was a work for us to do. The adversary attempts to deceive by having us forget who we truly are. If we do not understand who we are, then it is difficult to recognize who we can become.
Distraction The adversary’s design is to distract us from spiritual witnesses, while the Lord’s desire is to enlighten and engage us in His work.
In our day, there are many distractions, including Twitter, Facebook, virtual reality games, and much more. These technological advances are amazing, but if we are not careful, they can distract us from fulfilling our divine potential. Using them appropriately can bring forth the power of heaven and allow us to witness miracles as we seek to gather scattered Israel on both sides of the veil. Let us be careful and not casual in our use of technology. Continually seek for ways that technology can draw us closer to the Savior and allow us to accomplish His work as we prepare for His Second Coming.
Discouragement Lastly, the adversary desires for us to become discouraged. We may get discouraged when we compare ourselves to others or feel we are not living up to expectations, including our own.
Please do not let anyone steal your happiness. Do not compare yourself to others. Please remember the loving words of the Savior; “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Peter taught us a great lesson, through an experience he had. When Christ asked him to come to Him, Peter was excited and so willing, that he stepped out of the boat. And rather than going into the water, he was on top of it. And with that, he started walking, focused on the Savior. Then the winds arose, and he looked down and became afraid, and started to sink. He stopped walking, being focused on the Savior.
In closing, we need to strengthen ourselves, so that we can strengthen others.
I have found myself contemplating this blog. I am NO expert and I never wanted to present myself as such. As the title proclaims, “I Am Simply Becoming (Who I Am)” step by step, day by day. Tripping over rocks and branches at times, coming to sheer cliffs of uncertainty and self-doubt. Looking back and saying to myself, you weren’t a good this or that and you’re certainly not a very good this. I too need to see what the Lord sees in me. This is my goal.
Then through strengthening myself, I can strengthen others. I know that I have received a LOT of strength from others, of which I am very grateful for, which is part of another portion of my blog, come along with me on my journey of Inspiration, Learning and Sharing.
