Sunday Thoughts August 15, 2021

President Oaks conference talk from October 2020; Love Your Enemies-was spoken of today.

There is no doubt that there is a lot of trouble in the world. Riots, fierce debates, violence, and a myriad of types of discord.

One of the questions asked in his talk is “How do we learn to love our adversaries and our enemies?”

The Savior’s teaching not to “contend with anger” is a good first step.

Among other ways is to get to know them.

An even greater help is to seek to understand the power of love.

There is one element that is not on the Periodic Table, and that is the element of Love!

Love: casteth out fear.

1 Corinthians 13: the pure love of Christ is Charity. If you have charity you thinketh not evil. Thinking evil is judging.

At the Last Supper Jesus said un-accusingly, one of you will betray me. After it was discovered who it would be, Judas leaves the group. Then Jesus said, a new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another as I have loved you.

In Matthew 5:39 whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.

The Mosaic Law teaches an eye for an eye yet Christ’s Law is the law of love.

One final thought that came from another speaker, fits in here, is if we keep looking at our youth/children as a challenge or as a problem, what hope do they have?

I would like to add even adults. Thanks to the Atonement we ALL can change. His atonement was the ultimate gift of love. We can ALL repent. We can ALL change.
