Organization

Creation Schedule

It’s a new year, time to get organized. Okay, it’s nearly the end of January, but it’s taken me a lot longer than I thought, to get this blog set up.

I am so excited about this first post on organization. Some people may not think I am organized, and to be quite honest right now I am not as on track as I would like to be. A year and a half ago I started treatment for my troubled mental health, and it has prevented me from doing so many things except for employment to pay bills and a few necessities around the house, by I did not keep a ‘schedule’ as I wanted to.

There are some family members who don’t like this plan but it worked for me for years when I had three young boys and wasn’t working outside of the home. My husband was working hard to provide for our family, but it kept him away from home a lot as he drove truck. But I believe it can be customized to work with someone who does work part-time or full-time, Whether you have kids at home or not.

I may not have those boys at home anymore but I rely on this system due to my memory issues, sometimes it’s very easy to get off track or feel overwhelmed because I can’t decide where to start. Then I have a hard time with focusing on what I am doing and not start something else while I’m in the middle of one project.

My sister shared this with me. It’s called “The Creation Schedule”. It is based on the biblical account of the creation of the world.

Disclaimer This is based on the creation and does not claim that this is exactly the order of The Actual Creation.

Normally the calendar week starts on Sunday and goes through til Saturday. This schedule is more based on the creation’s order. Monday thru Sunday.

Creation Schedule

Monday: Organized Matter

-First off, here is where you correlate everyone’s schedules for the week. I LOVED MY DAY PLANNER. Now this was back when cell phones were pretty new and pretty expensive, so that was not an option. It doesn’t matter what brand of planner you get, just get one that meets YOUR needs. Mine had a calendar, addresses and phone numbers I needed, and places to take notes with several dividers. I had a divider for each one of my children, one for my church responsibilities, one for school info for the boys’ school, etc. Of course, using you phone now will work and may be more practical, it is for me, but you can get a planner if that works for you.

-Then, I would plan our menu for the week. THIS is a life saver. There is nothing more stressful than trying to figure out what is for dinner when you are tired from a long day or even when you are trying to get a lot of things done. That goes for whether you have kids or not.

-Get your TO DO LIST ready for errand day (coming up below). You don’t want to waste gas and time not correlating your errands. If you need to have some of your errands on your way to and from work if it’s helpful, and doable. That is something I need to do, because we live on the west side of the valley and one of my jobs in on the southern end on the valley. Not all of the places we need to go are really close to us.

TO DO LIST #2 falls kind of in the first part where you correlate schedules in the first paragraph, but slightly different. There may be specific things you need, to do on other days of the week that require supplies. Of course, a list for errand day might be needed if you do not have the supplies on hand already.

-Lastly (for Monday), I would take that menu plan and make a grocery list. You won’t be shopping today, just preparing for shopping day (coming below). This can save you a lot of time and money, as you will know you have what you need for each meal, and will have those things after the shopping day. That will also equal fewer trips to the store AND can keep you staying within a budget and not going in for one item and coming out with a half a dozen items or more. I know, I know, I do it all the time.

Tuesday: Divide water from firmament

HURRAY FOR LAUNDRY DAY! At my house at least, whether you have 2 or more living there, laundry seems to still be a mountain. Of course, as a stay at home mom, I was able to get a lot of other things done around the house while the laundry was washing or drying. This was a great time to do some deeper cleaning around the house. The bathrooms, wash windows, etc.

This was also a great day for Sewing/Mending. I don’t do that as much now as my family is nearly grown, but yeah, this is a great day if that’s your thing.

Maybe you are into crafting, painting, reading, or whatever you hobby, yep this is a great day for that too.

Wednesday: Seasons/Night and Day

Okay, I’ve mentioned it at least twice above, Grocery Shopping & Errands Day. Dun, dun, dahhhhh. The day has arrived. Get your lists, reusable shopping bags, wallet and car keys and off we go. Let’s get those errands ran.

Of course, you need to take care if you have things that need to stay refrigerated or frozen. I have taken a cooler or two with me to keep those items in, if I am going to be gone for a while. Then I buy ice while I’m at the store. Ta-dah!

If you are going to be gone a long time, you might want to put dinner in the crock pot or have sandwiches or something else that is simple. If you’re NOT going to gone a long time, you might take the time to do some reading, etc.

Thursday: Earth Grass and plants

  • Gardening
  • Mow Lawns/trim/rake
  • Clean out cars
  • Wash cars

I don’t think I need to spell it out more than a list. It is pretty self-explanatory. Of course, you can add whatever you want for things needing to be done outside like repairs and the like.

Friday: Animals and Creatures to Multiply/Service

Multiplying your talents and doing acts of service should be done everyday day of the week. This is not what it this implies. I would try to write letters. I wasn’t very good at it, and back in the day when letter writing wasn’t as simple as it is today, we needed to use snail mail. Writing letters can be done this day, even now with e-mail. In fact, we rely to much on social media to stay in touch, that letter writing doesn’t exist much anymore. I love social media and it has truly helped me to keep in contact with family and friends, yet it’s not a very private way to really talk.

This is a great day to schedule things that you would like to get done, that doesn’t fall under the other categories.

Saturday: Man and Woman

FAMILY! This is a great day to really concentrate on your family. Go on a picnic, come back from camping on Friday night, or go fishing in the morning. Go for a drive or a walk, visit a museum or go to an amusement park. Go to a sporting event, or____you fill in the blank. Even doing chores around the home.

I know it would be a perfect world if all that we needed to get done, was all during the week leaving the weekend to just play. Hopefully your ‘Creation Schedule’ involves your family members too (if they’re still at home) with helping out with those items that are during the week. Let’s face it, not everything will get done during the week. Teaching our children how to work is really important and a very valuable skill to have them take into the world when they are on their own.

Take time to do meal prep today, getting ready for tomorrow, leaving no or very little meal prep. Making sure any laundry is completely done, house is tidy, and things are in order. So, I guess that would be focusing on the ‘Family’.

Sunday: Rest from all our labors

REST–Yes, even God The Father of us all and creator of this great world, rested from all His labors. What a great example!

That is why meal prep on Saturday is great. NO laundry gets done on Sunday in our home. I have needed to teach family members to drape wet things over the washer so they can dry and not get musty and moldy (and they know it will be okay until Monday morning, or will then be dry to put in the hamper for Tuesday).

This is the day to go to church, study the scriptures, visit the elderly in your area, do something special for a neighbor…the list is endless. It is setting apart this day to worship the Lord and to use the time to teach and bless our families. This doesn’t mean being idle and just lazing around either.

Doing good continually.

I hope that the idea of the ‘Creation Schedule’ will be of help to you in being better organized, less chaotic and adds peace to your life.
