NO MORE VALENTINE’S CARDS, PLEASE

I am a day late, and maybe a dollar short, but I LOVE the opportunity to be

able to make this post today. With work and seeing the doctor, then go shopping and having dinner with my family, at 8:00 p.m. (yes, you see that correctly, I know, I know, that’s late for dinner) I ran out of time. So here we are.

This is the week, that our little ones, or rather you, are doing Valentine’s cards for their class mates. By the time you’re done you don’t want to see another Valentine’s card for a long time. But wait, I’ve got a great project and learning lesson on service for you kiddos.

What?! Are you crazy lady?

Maybe a little :/

No really, this is simple and yes a little work, but the rewards are so worth it. Let’s give it a try. I know some of you have heard of this, but I have talked to a few who haven’t, so here we go.

Give someone a “Heart Attack”. No, No, No not a literal one, a paper one.

Cut out some hearts, you can either do it by hand (which would teach kids a great lesson of giving of their time) or a machine. You can do them in just red, or pink, or do a whole lot of colors for even a brighter effect. Do them big and small or just the same size. You might want to plan on about a dozen per person that you are serving (that info is coming).

Then make a bright sign with “You Are Loved” on it. Again this can be done by hand or the printer. The letters can be fancy or plain, about the size of a sheet of paper for each sign.

Now, think of someone to serve this “Heart Attack” to. A neighbor who lives alone, the leader (minister, pastor, bishop…) of your church, someone who is going through a hard time. Really the list can have endless possibilities. Do try to have at least two people to serve.

Now once you have your hearts (placed in an envelope or some container, for each person) and your sign, the fun really begins. On Valentine’s Day, wait until it’s dark, sneak up to the person’s door and quietly put the hearts and sign on their porch. Go ahead and let the hearts scatter unorganized. Then when every one is ready, knock or ring the bell and rrrruuuunnnnnn and hide. Try to make it so that you can see their face as they open the door and see their surprise.

There you go. You just gave someone a “heart attack”. Now that was a lot more rewarding than you thought.
