How to Make Soup

Welcome to this year’s Souptober!

Here at Debora’s Simple Kitchen, soup was not just something that was tradition during General Conference, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, held in the first weekend of April and October, soup was something that I could make in a hurry, to make the budget stretch, and to try something new as we raised our children. It’s also a great way to use up leftovers.

Where does one begin? There are a few steps to follow so you don’t necessarily need a recipe. I love to try new recipes! These steps will help with putting together items you have left over or putting together something out of your food storage.

Soup-a liquid dish, typically made by boiling meat, fish, or vegetables, etc., in stock

Stew-a dish of meat and vegetables cooked slowly in liquid in a closed dish or pan.

Chili-Though many people think of chili as its own category, it is technically just a type of stew, with origins in Tex-Mex cuisine. Chili isn’t a soup mostly because it usually is more solid than it is liquid, with most chili recipes containing majority meat and/or vegetables that are simmered in a tomato sauce. Though some chilis are not made with tomatoes.

I found this graphic that illustrates “How to Build the Perfect Soup” from https://lexiscleankitchen.com/how-to-build-the-perfect-soup/#_a5y_p=4550183

I’ll be posting some recipes this month and hope that you will leave recipes that you like in the comments. Remember I love to try new recipes. 🙂

Time to snuggle up with a hot bowl of soup. Stay warm this winter.
